Before: The Redken and Mizani partnership will teach stylists how to create texture and color transformations.
After: A color and texture transformation.
Before: “We want to be there for everyone,” says Redken x Mizani Brand Ambassador Leysa Carrillo @leysahairandmakeup.
After: “Yes, you can have color. Yes, you can be blonde. Yes, you can have the full rainbow,” Carrillo says.
This collaboration speaks to diversity and inclusion.
If you love Redken and you love Mizani; if you love hair color and you love texture, you’ll love this news. These two powerhouse companies—Redken, the expert in color, and Mizani, the expert in care and styling for textured hair—are partnering up for a new initiative they’re calling For the Love of Texture. The educational goal of the initiative is to give salon professionals the tools they need to expand their skills and in turn confidently color, care and style textured hair.
“This collaboration really speaks to diversity and inclusion,” says Mizani Global Artistic Director Pekela Riley. “It’s going to elevate the perspectives of styling and coloring textured hair.”
Here’s more about Redken x Mizani for the Love of Texture.
DREAM TEAM
As a part of the partnership, Redken and Mizani have tapped top texture experts Leysa Carrillo @leysahairandmakeup and Rachel Redd @ rachel_redd as joint Redken x Mizani Brand Ambassadors. The pair will work with Pekela Riley @pekelariley and key members of the Redken and Mizani artist network including, Redken Artists George Garcia @georgegarciaredken and Lindesay Olsen @lindsey.marie.olsen and Mizani Artists Evie Johnson @contactevie and Jamal Edmonds @lamajbackwards, to name a few. “Teamwork really is what produces the best results,” Olson says. Adds Edmonds, “This partnership will give this industry hope.”
THE NUMBERS TELL THE STORY
The collaboration couldn’t be more relevant, if you review current stats. According to the NaturallyCurly 2018 Texture Trends Report, 65% of consumers have textured hair. What’s more, relaxers have declined by almost 50% from 2014 to 2019, and this shift has given clients the option to experiment with color without worrying it will result in damage caused by using relaxers and color together. In light of these trends, the need to educate stylists on how to safely color and lighten textured hair without compromising the curl pattern or hair health is more essential than ever. “It also means we need to ensure the styling and care products used post-color adequately replenish the hair with the right balance of protein and moisture,” Riley says.
SHARED MISSION
The evidence is clear—for hairstylists to succeed, they must be able to service all textures. That means understanding how to maintain the integrity of the hair when coloring so the curl pattern stays intact. It also means ensuring the hair has the proper balance of moisture and strength before, during and after the color service. “Redken has always been about maintaining the integrity of the hair to avoid disturbing the curl pattern,” Garcia says. And, adds Riley, Mizani products provide the moisture, strength and oils textured hair requires.
FOR THE LOVE
At the core of this initiative, according to the artists and ambassadors participating in the education, is love. “It is our love for salon professionals, the professional industry and textured hair that brought us together to achieve a common goal,” say Redken General Manager Leslie Marino and Mizani General Manager Teresa Lopez. “ Together our goal is to empower stylists to learn, earn and live better through inclusive education and superior product offerings, so they can open their hearts and chairs to all clients and all hair textures.”
