THE OSCARS: Reactions to Red Carpet Makeup from Celeb Artists
Celebrity makeup artists dish here on the red carpet trends seen at the Oscars and take main stage at The Makeup Show LA on March 2nd and 3rd at California Market Center.
“The Oscars did not disappoint when it came to showing beautiful makeup. Many of the women took the trend of nude or soft pink lip and a heavy lash and ran with it, which I thought was simply stunning on some and needed a bit more on others,” states James Vincent, celebrity makeup artist and Director of Artistry and Education for The Makeup Show.
Vincent also notes some of his favoriteceleb looks and what he felt was missing on the red carpet this year, “Naomi Watts looked sensational in her glowing nude look, the soft blue liner added the point of interest that some of the more natural looks were lacking. Jennifer Lawrence’s shimmery pink look, I thought was perfect for her age and complexion. Adele and Halle Berry brought a beautiful Bond Girl feel to their soft smoky eye and nude lip looks that I thought was understated and elegant and you could not takeyour eyes off them. And Barbara Streisand showed the world how less can be more with a flattering look for older women. Charlize Theron was one of my favorite looks of the night with a beautifully balanced makeup.
I think for me I miss the days when people got carried away on the red carpet or at least took some risk. Everyone now is so professionally styled they don't take chances. Some of my favorites thatbucked the trend. Jessica Chastains matte red lip was so beautiful against her complexion. Queen Latifahs look from legendary Sam Fine was flawless. The blonde eyebrow and simple eye with abold bright lip was beautiful and memorable. I also loved Kristen Stewarts makeup look by Beau Nelson. A lot of people did not like her morning after hair but I thought it fit her personality and was so perfect with her auburn smokey eye, romantic lash and kiss of color pink lips. I think it was nice to see something so different that was more about an actors personality and less about playing it safe.”
Did you love the brows you saw on the crimson rug? We’ve got the scoop on this too. Anastasia Soare, founder of Anastasia Beverly Hills is known as The Definitive Brow and Eye Expert and made over the brows at the Oscars for Mary Steenburgen, Leighton Meester, Oprah Winfrey, Laura Dern, Kate Capshaw, Julie Chen, Jason Schwartzman, Jennifer Lopez, and Heidi Klum. Anastasia tells us here how you can achieve these looks at home:
“Jennifer Lopez is always so glamorous, she maintains a high arch brow and loves to use highlighter along her brow bone. To achieve her look, fill in your brows using Medium Ash brow powder and finish off the look with Brow Duality pencil in Lace along your brow bone.”
“Heidi Klum is not exactly a challenge when it comes to looking gorgeous. She likes a clean makeup look. For her brows I fill them in with Blonde brow pencil and apply clear brow gel on top. Heidi keeps her makeup fresh and her browsclassic.”
“Oprah Winfrey loves a classic bold brow, I have never shaped her brows thin we always strive to maintain a thick arch. For Ms. Winfrey's brows I apply Brunette brow powder and touch up any gaps with Brunette Brow Wiz. I finish off the look with Clear Brow Gel.”
Attendees of The Makeup Show LA will also have a chance to ask Anastasia directly about these tips and see the products in action on Sunday, March 3rd during Anastasia Beverly Hills seminar on “5 Minute Brows.”
Sam Fine’s red carpet masterpiece at the Oscars was Queen Latifah. Sam will also be taking the stage on Saturday March 2nd to talk about “A Career in Makeup”.
