It’s the moment we have all been waiting for—the finalists for the North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) will be announced on Tuesday, April 30 at 1 p.m. EST. Tune into and PBA Beauty Week’s Facebook page ( for the announcement and photos of the finalists’ entries.

MODERN Editors Alison Shipley and Maggie Mulhern will be presenting on stage at the 2013 NAHA Awards Ceremony on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. NAHA celebrates the artistry and skill of the professional salon industry. Each year, individuals are recognized during the ceremony in 14 different categories ranging from avant-garde and editorial styling to recognizing the business savvy nature of salon owners.

TV personality Mario Lopez will receive the 2013 PBA Beautiful Humanitarian Award during the Ceremony honoring his work with charitable initiatives. A champion of many causes, Lopez’s work as an Alumni Ambassador of Fitness with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), and as part of the organization’s BE GREAT campaign, has continually helped bring to light the major issues affecting today’s young people, including the importance of graduating from high school and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Lopez is also a passionate supporter of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Community Youth Athletic Center of Chula Vista, Jameson’s Army and Padres Contra el Cancer.

MODERN and the industry mourns the loss of Gino Trunzo who died yesterday in Mexico of a heart attack. Trunzo made a name for himself in the nail world as both a manicurist and essie’s Assistant Vice President and was named assistant vice president of business development for Redken and Pureology earlier this year.
