Noted author and psychotherapist Virginia Satir, a pioneer in family therapy, once said we need four hugs a day for survival, eight hugs a day for maintenance, and twelve hugs a day for growth. On September 24, 2013, students and staff from Paul Mitchell Schools will do their part to help America meet its hugs quota for the day!

This year marks the 5th annual Paul Mitchell Schools’ Free Hugs Day, with over 13,000 future professionals from 100 Paul Mitchell cosmetology schools expected to hit the streets and spread a little love throughout the continental United States and Hawaii.

“Our Free Hugs campaign is just one of the many ways our future beauty professionals show their passion and compassion in their local communities,” said Paul Mitchell Schools Dean and Cofounder Winn Claybaugh. “As members of the beauty industry, we’re in the business of helping people look beautiful. More important, it’s part of our ‘be nice’ culture to help people feel beautiful.”

Dressed in their signature black outfits, carrying handmade “Free Hugs” signs, and naturally sporting fabulous styles, they’ll head for plazas, parks, and other popular spots to offer hugs and make people’s day. Many leading Paul Mitchell artists, educators, top executives, and superstars will join the students at Free Hugs locations in their areas.
