SALON TODAY recently attended Professional Salon Concept’s (PSC) 30th anniversary event, where approximately 300 salon professionals, educators and PSC employees gathered together for an all-day event celebrating PSC’s brands and accomplishments in the salon industry.

Steve and Terri Cowan founded PSC in 1983 with the vision of changing the salon industry one hairdresser at a time. From the start PSC took every step to establish the unparalleled standards in service for their growing family of salons. The Cowans are just as dedicated to business systems, and dialogue training for salons and industry professionals.

The Cowans have hosted a multitude of legendary hairdressers such as Vivienne Mackinder, Christopher and Sonja Dove, Yosh Toya, Stephen Moody, Ruth Roche, Geno Stampora, The Vidal Sassoon Academy team, Studio Creativity, Nathanial Hawkins at “The Space” locations.

For their 30th anniversary event, SALON TODAY caught the second half of the presentations which included: Eufora, Paul Mitchell, Davines and O&M (Original&Mineral). The beginning of the day held an opening ceremony, and presentations by BF/Gage, milk_shake and Brocato.

THE PRESENTATIONS:

Eufora: Global Team Member Mirza Batanovic and Hero for Men Technical Director Jay Fata showed off a long hair cut for clients that wanted to change their look but don’t want to change their length, and a French Twist Updo.

Paul Mitchell: Vice President of Education Stephanie Kocielski and National Educator Colin Caruso talked about Paul Mitchell’s color system and their tips and advice for what it takes to be successful in the beauty industry. “Working with Steve and Terri Cowan helped me get to the next level in my life,” says Kocielski. “They really helped me to develop into the educator I am today.”

Later in the presentation, they announced Angus Mitchell as the new face of MITCH, and talked about how the men’s market is changing. “Guys tip better, guys are more loyal, guys buy more products—there’s a lot of opportunity in the men’s market today and in the future. Men are bringing in more revenue and can keep your salon busy. Try making your salon more male-friendly to attract more clients,” says Kocielski.

Davines: Flying in all the way from Denmark, International Trainers Brian Suhr and Kirsten Demant showed the audience inspirational cuts and a braided updo creation. Using Davines Pure Color, permanent hair color, they talked about how their line can be used for intense or passive looks. “It’s ammonia-free system contains 51 shades and it’s a fantastic tool to work with,” says Demant.

O&M: Flying in all the way from Australia, Original&Mineral featured owner Alan Buki and Creative Director Janelle Chaplin. A newer beauty brand in the U.S., O&M was developed 13 years ago, by hairdressers for hairdressers in hopes of transforming people’s attitudes through their hair styles. Buki talked about the history of the brand, and how his history with contact dermatitis ultimately led him to creating the brand. “When I went to the UK for work, I realized the products I was using didn’t aggravate my skin, It’s because everything I was working with was ammonia-free. I realized that I needed to use ammonia-free products for the rest of my life to save my career, that’s when I started O&M.”

Later in the presentation Chaplin showed the audience how to re-create a number of Fashion Week looks using the products from the line.
