Amazing Makeover Wins Joico Competition

Joico's Damien Carney recently took a Tucson hairdresser and her salon's owner through a hair fashion trend photo shoot for his "Contradictions" release. The New York session/lesson was one of the prizes in a Joico makeover competition, "Elevated Style," won last fall by Maria Lopez of the Spirit Salon and Day Spa.

Maria's model started out as a blonde, but as a high-schooler, she wanted to experiment.

"She tried to lighten her own hair," said Maria. "Plus, her hair was way too long, stringy and over-processed."

To correct the color, Maria injected a series of warm lowlights and muted highlights, taking her model into a burnished brunette that complemented her eyes.

A disconnected, layered cut bumped up the volume while getting rid of most of the damage.
