Editorial and celebrity hair stylist Patrick Melville launches his first-ever full-service luxury salon, The Patrick Melville Salon, at The Sports Club/LA at Rockefeller Center in New York this month. Les Haverty, artistic director for FHI Heat, has just opened the new Nelson J. Salon in the heart of Beverly Hills with his longtime friend, celebrity stylist Nelson Chan. MODERN’s own East Coast Beauty Director Maggie Mulhern and West Coast Editor Alicia Marantz polled the two style leaders on “personal favorites.”  See how they compare and contrast:

Favorite beverages: Red wine. “A great meal is finished off with a great wine for balance. My favorites are Stags Leap and Opus One.”

Guilty pleasures: Expensive food. “I love to eat at great restaurants that are a luxury for people. In New York City, there’s always a new restaurant, so you always get to taste and try.”

Great getaways: Harbour Island in the Bahamas. “It’s low-key. . . read, swim and exercise.”

Go-to professional products: L’Oréal and Kérastase, “the most complete, incredible line of styling products for achieving healthy hair.”

Latest, greatest restaurants: Nobu, still. “I love the blackened cod and the rock shrimp. The scallops are amazing, too.”

Good shoes: Timberland boots. “I spend all week in the salon and I have to wear a certain look. On the weekend I can put on my jeans and Timberlands. They remind me of being in the country.”

Favorite color: Blue. “It’s an energizing color and reminds me of the sky and the ocean. And I have blue eyes, and blue looks good on me!”

Music: Upbeat. “Everything from the ’70s to the Arctic Monkeys. Archie Bunker, one of my favorite new bands, reminds me of where I grew up in Manchester.”
