British Hairdresser of the Year for 2007, Trevor Sorbie's Angelo Seminara weaves fashion directly into his style concept. MODERN's Victoria Wurdinger quizzed him on the role of fashion in hairdressing in an email interview shortly after his big win.

Victoria: What influences you most when it comes to determining a hair style trend?

Angelo: I work on all the catwalk shows in Paris, Milan and New York so I am in the unique position of seeing trends unfold. The most influential designers are Comme des Garcons and Alexander McQueen. Working with them, seeing silhouettes and textures, inspires me to create new shapes and styles that complement the new seasons fashions.

Victoria: How can stylists reinterpret your "Heterogeneous" collection in the salon for commercial wear?

Angelo: Basically, all the shapes and textures can be translated into the salon. The three curly styles feature what I call "dry texture," like salt has been put into the hair but left in situ to give this effect.  I think this type of texture will be big for the coming season. The looks are maybe a little bold but inspiration can be taken and dressed down slightly for clients. The upswept look is a modern updo that shows dressed beautiful hair and can again be translated into the salon to party occasions.

Victoria: Your forecast for spring?

Angelo: Natural, beautiful and simple. Hair will be well-groomed. Crops like model Agnes Deyn's epitomise the look of the moment. The "Posh Spice" is over, and shorter, sexy looks are definitely in.
