According to Philip Pelusi, celebrity hair stylist and hair care mogul, this spring's hot new cut is the pixie. Chic and effortless-looking, celebrities including Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham have already been seen rockin' the ‘do.

"Fashion designers always look to previous eras for inspiration. Hair stylists do exactly the same thing," says Pelusi. "The pixie cut is a throwback to the old Hollywood beauties of the ‘50s and ‘60s."

Pelusi's tips on how to style the Pixie cut:

• Texture is tantamount. A good Pixie should have a lot of short, different length pieces. When used with a texturizing product, the layers create voluminous, younger-looking hair.

• Keep it sharp.
Hair grows half an inch each month, so to pull off this look, hair should be cut once a month or every six weeks.

• Side-sweep with bangs. Modernize this look with side-swept bangs. It will soften the overall appearance and bring more attention to the face.

• Dirty is good. Avoid washing hair too frequently as it strips hair's natural oils-leaving it frizzy and full of flyaways.
