Global Salon Business Awards Moves to ABS

Web Editor | July 10, 2011 | 8:11 PM

At the Leadership Brunch held at America’s Beauty Show (ABS), Cosmetologists Chicago President Luz Segovia and Paul Dykstra, CEO of America’s Beauty Show, shared an exciting development—in 2010, the Global Salon Business Awards (GSBA) will join forces with ABS.

The brainchild of beauty industry icon and Redken founder Paula Kent Meehan, GSBA honors successful salons around the world.
“Many programs exist to acknowledge the creative artistry of the salon professional, but without business skills, creative artistry can not sustain our industry,” says Meehan.

The GSBA and its adjunct business education Forum reward salons for business acumen and encourage stronger business skills. After three successful biennial award ceremonies in London, Barcelona and Hollywood, the GSBA is now established worldwide as a program to recognize the salon industry’s contributions to the business world.

Dykstra noted that while plans for both the GSBA Education and Awards program are being finalized, several primary industry corporations have indicated their support of hosting GSBA in conjunction with ABS and America’s Beauty Network.

Details of the 2010 GSBA program are online at americasbeautyshow.com.

Everything You Need to Know About the Goldwell Color Zoom Competition

Alison Alhamed | October 1, 2017

Color Zoom 101: Every year, Goldwell releases a trend collection that is used as the inspiration for its annual haircolor and style competition, Color Zoom. Across the globe, Color Zoom starts on a national level. Beauty pros compete in three categories— Creative Colorist, New Talent Colorist, Partner Colorist—by submitting a photo of their interpretation of the trend. Once the Gold winners of each category are determined on a national level, they go on to compete internationally on behalf of their respective countries during a live recreation of the look on their model—including the hair color—in front of a judging panel and audience. The international leg of the competition takes place in a new city each year.
