What's Your Favorite Color Service Now?

July 10, 2011 | 11:23 PM

We asked Modern Salon October 2010 contributors and colorists Beth Minardi, Michael Boychuck and Patrick McIvor this question:

What's your favorite color service right now?

What's Your Favorite Color Service Now?"Painting free form shade-on-shade through the hair. I found a way to cut foil with scissors to control shape of the selected strands. It's not just the strand, it is the shape of what you select to color that makes all the difference."-Beth Minardi

In July, Beth Minardi became the 2010 recipient of the NAHA Lifetime Achievement Award and currently serves as spokesperson for Joico's Vero K-Pak color. Co-owner of Minardi salon and renowned educator, Minardi sees clients several days a week, tours, teaches and develops color education material for Joico. She is also president and CEO of Minardi Beauty Products: luxury care for color-treated hair.

What's Your Favorite Color Service Now?"If you do great color on unhealthy hair, it's not great color. So any color design that results in a healthy result is my favorite color service right now. I only use the most non-aggressive products possible" -Michael Boychuck

Michael Boychuck, owner of Color at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, comes from humble beginnings. "I went to Jacksonville, Florida, for continuing education and ended up with a mentor who allowed me to work for free until I brought up my skills. I knew I wasn't that good, but I learned and eventually got on the floor," he says. Boychuck eventually ended up at the Jose Eber salon in Beverly Hills for seven years where he learned to make "everything individual for everyone." He continues to practice that philosophy in his three Las Vegas salons. "It's a passion," he said, "and we all benefit from hard work and attention to detail."

What's Your Favorite Color Service Now?"Glazing. We transform guests this season with multi-dimensional glazes using Color Sync that works seamlessly with their previously existing highlights. Color Sync gives us a great, fashionable result without any drama."-Patrick McIvor

Patrick McIvor is the Artistic Color Director at Matrix. He owns Patrick McIvor Color Studio in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and Studio Two in Allentown, Pennsylvania. McIvor mentors his team by involving them in runway work at New York Fashion Week; fashion/beauty editorial shoots and interviews with publications like Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Real Simple, Seventeen and Allure. McIvor is also featured in the book 50 Hairstylists.
