The Grammy Glow

The Grammy Awards took center stage Sunday night and it was an amazing three hours of music, fashion and makeup. I loved every minute of it.

The show kicked off with the diva-tastic quintet of Christina Aguilera, Yolanda Adams, Florence Welsh, Jennifer Hudson and Martina McBride singing their tushies off in tribute to Aretha Franklin. All of the ladies looked stunning – especially Christina in show stopping red lipstick and platinum hair.

Lady Gaga arrived on the red carpet encased in an egg – later in the show she debuted her new single “Born this Way” in black lips, futuristic lashes and winged liner. Her dancers wore blue panda eyes with sliver glitter. Amazing. My only question is how did she get that waist-length ponytail to stay on her head with all that dancing?

I loved the performance of Janelle Monae and Bruno Mars - both rocking high pompadours, eyeliner and powdered perfect skin. I’m sure they applied anti-shine products because they never broke a sweat.

Jennifer Lopez must have read my Golden Globe’s makeup review, because she looked amazing this time out. Gone were the pasty skin and matte lips. Dark smokey eyes, glowing skin and glossy nude lips are indeed her best friends.

Other show stopping makeup looks included Nicky Minaj who rocked her leopard-skirted jumpsuit with thick eyeliner and fabulous fuchsia lips and a leopard beehive hairdo.

Katy Perry dazzled in millions of false eyelashes, purple and green eye shadow and hot pink lips. Her perfect skin – I guess that Pro –Active she hawks really works - was shining and clear. I loved her wavy glamour girl hair, too.

New Artist of the Year winner Esperanza Spalding did natural makeup right – false lashes, great brows and glowing skin complimented her amazing Afro puff.

Now for the Grammy makeup misfires.

Ok, I’m happy that Kelly Osborne has lost weight, but does she need to look like every other skinny starlet on her way to a wedding? I want some edge. Bring back the eyeliner, Kelly.

Same comments apply to Beyonce and Gwyneth Paltrow – both looked Hollywood pretty, but this is the Grammy’s ladies – rock it out. Come on, put a little Gaga in your step.

Barbara Streisand still can sing, but her blah makeup could have used a little help. When wearing black, the face needs some definition. I would suggest a darker lip shade and false eyelashes. I’d love to see Babs take her 1960’s Cleopatra inspired self out of the closet and have some fun with makeup again.

Poor Snookie of Jersey Shore looked every inch the Jersey girl in way too big hair and way too much makeup – and I won’t even talk about the mess of a dress she wore. Wouldn’t it be great if Snookie would submit herself to a Modern Salon make over?

And finally, I’d like to inform Toni Braxton that lipstick is not the enemy – put some lipstick on girl!
