Design Matters by Luis Alvarez and the Aquage Team

Modern Salon | July 10, 2011 | 11:57 PM

Shortly after shooting the imagery for America's Beauty Show at McCormick Place in Chicago, the inspired Aquage team began a national six-city tour to officially launch and promote its new line, Biomega. Styles were strongly influenced by the architecture and art in each city, while the wardrobe was inspired by the Biomega products. Straying from Aquage's signature blue shade, VP of Creative Luis Alvarez chose colorful, vintage Thierry Mugler suits to complement the locations and hair designs. This was the first editorial shoot where styles were created using the variable-hold system of Biomega styling and texturizing products: Behave, Text Me and Shake It!

"With these three products in your creative arsenal, you can create virtually any level of hold or degree of texture," said Alvarez. Aquage Master Artist Ann Bray also used two Aquage products: Finishing Spray and Beyond Shine to complete the looks.

The primary goal for the Aquage team during any editorial creative collaboration is to awaken and inspire the fine artist within every hairdresser." -Luis Alvarez

"For this project, I challenged Ann [Bray, Master Aquage Artist] to create a series of hairstyles that were architecturally inspired and were as much about form as they were about surface quality and reflectivity." -Luis Alvarez
