Farouk Shami, founder and chairman of Farouk Systems, is personally traveling to tornado-ravaged Joplin, Missouri to help 60 salon professionals who lost their businesses, as well as offering support to the countless residents affected by the disaster.

This is a personal journey for Shami who immigrated to the US in 1965 and attended the former Joplin Beauty Academy and worked in the salon in the former Newman’s department store before launching his career and worldwide product company. In 2009 Joplin Mayor Gary Shaw presented Shami with a proclamation declaring September 20, 2009 Farouk Shami Day.

“Joplin is where it all started for me,” says Shami.

“On Friday, May 27 at 11am I will be at the State Beauty Supply at Virginia Avenue to help my fellow Joplin salon professionals get their salons back on track by providing salon kits to help them restart their businesses and provide for their families. People need hope and a sense of normalcy after such disasters.”

Shami is donating salon kits, styling tools and products valued at more than $100,000. Shami and Farouk Systems will also donate care kits containing CHI and BioSilk shampoo, conditioner and other toiletries to Joplin residents.

“Joplin laid the foundation for where I am today,” Shami adds. “I started Farouk Systems 25 years ago with a mission and dream. We are a company of hairdressers for hairdressers and I am humbled that I am able to give back to where it all began for me.” Visit farouk.com.
