Anthony Morrison, owner of Londoner Salon and Spa, Manhattan Beach, California, and season one winner of Bravo’s Shear Genius, demonstrates how to create a soft, modern look and then transform it into a classic evening updo.
My vision was
to create a look
that was soft,
sexy, fun and
evocative. I used
Brigitte Bardot
from 1962 as my
inspiration, as
she represents
timeless beauty.

Blow dry the hair smooth. Set hair
in large electric rollers, wrapping
away from the face and back. Wrap
a Mohawk section toward the crown
from a high side parting.
Take sections from along the top
of the head and pull straight up.
Backcomb at the base to create a
strong foundation. Work back to the
crown. Remove the fringe strands
and then gather the top and side
strands to the crown. Smooth back
and secure at the crown. To fi nish the
half down look, use a curling iron to
create soft curls.
For a polished evening look, take one
inch sections from the back, pull out
and backcomb the base.
Place a bobby pin at midpoint and
twist. Direct to the opposite side,
twist and secure at the crown.
Continue working throughout the
lengths, pinning sections to the crown.
Reserve the last section to be drawn
up and around the crown pieces to
hide pins and smooth the design.
Secure section with bobby pins
tucked under the curls.
