Dear Creatures Show

At Gen Art’s 13th annual Fresh Faces in Fashion show (October 22nd) in Los Angeles, Moroccanoil was the exclusive presenting sponsor for the designers presenting their debut collections.  Los Angeles-based Moroccanoil hair stylist, Kevin Hughes headed the team that collaborated with designers and created the hair looks for 71 STANTON, Dear Creatures, Funktional, ODYLYNE, Stand and Deliver, We are Handsome and Chambers collections.

Hair trends emphasized healthy-looking, shiny and frizz-free looks with creative runway styles that highlighted diverse textures ranging from curly and wavy to smooth, sleek and silky and included longer hair looks, deep side swept bangs, loose braided effects and creative ponytails.

Hughes used a wide selection of Moroccanoil products including the Moroccanoil Treatment, Moroccanoil Curl Control Cream, Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray, Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray, and new Moroccanoil Frizz Control.

Curious about the looks?

DESIGNER: We Are Handsome (bathing suits)
LOOK: Featured natural looking loosely curled hair. To do curly looks successfully says Hughes, the hair needs to look natural and feel soft with no stiffness or “crunch.”  Shine and moisture should be in the hair so it doesn’t dry out or frizz.

“I first blow dried models’ hair smooth and straight using a cocktail of Moroccanoil Treatment (to nourish, condition, smooth and shine)—and Moroccanoil Curl Control Cream to shape and tame curls and add even more hydration as well as soft natural hold. For blonde and fine haired models, I used Moroccanoil Light,” says Hughes.

“I then took small 1” sections of hair, and sprayed Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray on sections one at a time before using a 5/8” curling iron. After letting the curls set for a few minutes, I sprayed them again with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to hold the curls without compromising natural movement. Finally, I finger-combed and separated and softened the curls and sprayed again with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray."

DESIGNER: ODYLYNE
LOOK: “We amped up the curls for Funktional,” says Hughes. “First, we backcombed the curls with our fingers then used the end of a rattail comb to separate and define the curls. Next, they were pulled to the side, smoothed a bit, and pinned into a swept bang or pulled the over into a small top knot. We finished with a light spray of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray."

DESIGNER: Dear Creature
LOOK: A smooth, silky, frizz-free ponytail style. Moroccanoil Frizz Control Spray was applied to dampened hair and blow dried straight and smooth. Then the crown and the top of the head were backcombed, and then smoothed. In the front of the hair a low deep sweeping bang was created. The hair was gathered into a low ponytail in the back leaving some texture and height at the crown. Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray finished off the look.

DESIGNER: 71 Stanton
LOOK: Hair was completed pulled back off the forehead, and tied in a high ponytail. “We flat ironed strands, flipped the hair and pulled one section over the other to create a subtle twisted effect,” says Hughes. “The hair was then secured under the ponytail with a silver barrette. A light misting of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray finished the look.“

DESIGNER: Stand and Deliver
LOOK: “We used sleek wigs that were longer at the front, and shorter and pieced out at the nape,” says Hughes. “My primary styling product was Moroccanoil Treatment, which produces amazing results on wigs and hair extensions. It helps them to look even more natural, boosts elasticity, and prevents the dryness or frizz that wigs and extensions can develop after a bit of styling.”

DESIGNER: Chambers (Menswear)
LOOK: “We created tousled, piecey hair that wouldn’t look overstyled, a 90’s grunge-inspired look that worked for shorter as well as longer hair lengths,” says Hughes. “We shaped and styled the hair into place with the Moroccanoil Curl Control Creame that works really well on men’s hair. We kept the look in place with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray.”
