Guido, Redken’s Creative Consultant and a true king of FASHION WEEK, leads about 100 shows each year, creating looks for all the top designers around the world including Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, Ralph lauren, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Versace, Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent among others.

“This Spring/Summer 2012 season was all about natural beauty, which was reinvented in modern ways,” Guido told me at a recent meeting in New York. “Each city had its own distinct personality—in New York we saw more casual and sporty hair, Milan had a very rich feeling, and in Paris we stepped out a bit more and really pushed the envelope.”

Guido shared his favorite trends for the Spring/Summer 2012 season and offered his tips for salon professionals on how to recreate the looks.

One surprising look found at many shows was WET… looks created with generous amounts of gel placed from root to ends, or slicked back and directed over the crown. “I don’t see this as a true salon finish,” said Guido. “It will be translated as shine.”

One of his favorites was the low ponytail seen at Diesel, inspired by a French girl’s hairstyle in the 1980s. “It’s easy and effortless, like she’s just come off the beach,” says Guido. “It has that wet look without actually having sopping wet hair.”

Guido’s tip on how to create the look: wet hair and apply a generous amount of guts 10 root targeted volume spray foam from roots to ends. Scrunch to create a wavy texture, then pull into a low pony, leaving out some pieces around the face. Finish with shine flash 02 glistening mist.

BRAIDS AND STRONG SHAPES

Braids are still on the “in” list. A strong look last season, braided updo’s maintain their popularity. The finish Guido created at Valentino epitomized the beauty and elegance of this elegant and timeless shape.

Guido’s tip on how to create the look: Prep hair with All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner, then blow-dry. Apply All Soft Argan-6 Multi-Care Oil, divide hair into three sections, and French braid, starting in the middle and continuing counter-clockwise around the hairline.

Calling it “tough shape”, Guido loved the texture at Alexander Wang. The models walked the runway with a sporty, just-out-of-the-shower look that contrasted perfectly with the high glam collection.

Guido’s tip on how to create the look: Apply full frame 07 all-over volumizing mousse to damp hair, creating a clean center part. Rough-dry to enhance texture. Create the “wet look” effect by over-applying All Soft Argan-6 Multi-Care Oil.

Whether wavy or straight, hair that’s worn down has undeniable staying  power. “This style is always in fashion,” says Guido. “It’s about updating it in new ways.”

The elegant perfect blow-dry will always be popular to many designers (and clients). That was exactly the look seen at D & G, where models’ bouncy blow-outs stole the show.

Guido’s tip on how to create the look: Apply velvet gelatine 07 cushioning blow-dry gel to damp hair and blow-dry with a round brush. Finish by smoothing on a small amount of All Soft Argan-6 Multi-Care Oil.
