One of the best parts of my job is getting to visit some of the most beautiful salons and spas around the world. The good news is, I don’t always have to go to another country to find those special spaces. Right here in my own backyard is Michael Angelo’s Wonderland Beauty Parlor, located in the heart of NYC’s Meatpacking district. It is a visual delight. Owner Michael Angelo (that’s right) lives up to his name as a true artist. “I wanted this space to BE a wonderland,” he says. “It is a wonderland beauty parlor where anything can happen and anything can be.”

Michael himself not only designs beautiful spaces, but designs beauty as well as a hair and make up artist. “I started my career as a makeup artist,” he says. “I watched the hairdressers at Paul Mitchell shows and learned from them.”

The “stations” are simply gorgeous. Each is unique and special with Venetian mirrors and Ghost chairs. The walls are decorated with art which he rotates, offering the space to other artists and photographers. In this video, we get to see the “Quiet Beauty” exposition from photographer Braden Summers.

Surprisingly, the ceiling is NOT decorated.  Hmmmm…. However, the floor is an homage to a pink sand beach. “Who wouldn’t want to stand on a pink sand beach all day?” he asks. This Wonderland Beauty Parlor truly is a WONDERLAND.
