Halle Berry's New Style: Growth or Extensions?

When Halle Berry hit the streets in April with a longer, textured style, heads began to spin. With the exception of a short stint during her pregnancy in 2007 and for a year or so afterward, Halle has more or less rocked her signature pixie cut throughout her 20-plus-year film career. So why the sudden change? And is it real growth or the work of extensions?

Though it may not come as a big surprise to the trained eye, Halle recently spilled to Elle magazine about her new textured style, created by her longtime celebrity stylist, Sheila Stotts, who also gave Halle her lengthy, straightened extensions back in 2007. Halle said:

 

On her signature pixie cut:

"I love short hair—that’s me, that’s who I am. I just feel confident and feel like my best self when I have short hair. But it’s fun to change sometimes."

More on the new style:

"I get a little bored and, as a woman, I want to change my shoes, my outfit, and my hair. And thanks to extensions, it’s easy to do. The trick is that you have to get hair that looks like it’s actually growing out of your head—it has to be the same texture as your natural hair. My hair is naturally curly like this, so you’re not able to see where the extensions begin. My hairstylist, Sheila Stotts, did a great job."

 

It's nice to know even Halle can get bored with her style! When your client is seeking a change from her typical shorter 'do, discuss the many options for extensions and what would work best for her. A few things to consider when discussing options with your clients:

Clip-ins: It may be the option with the least commitment required, but clip-ins will still require a little attention. Suggest these tips for clip-in maintenance to your client, if she's considering them. 

Current conditions: Extensions can't be considered a cure-all for damaged hair. Vikki Parman, CEO and director of education of Di Biase Hair Extensions, suggests explaining your haircare analysis to your client, plus a few other tips for that initial discussion.
