As non-surgical cosmetic procedures have become more popular, with numbers rising dramatically in the last several years, the number of the clients opting for plastic surgery has risen much more slowly.

  1. While the number of surgical cosmetic procedures decreased from 2,131,019 in 2005 to 1,922,788 in 2006, the number of non-invasive aesthetic procedures actually increased from 9,297,731 in 2005 to 9,533,980 in 2006.
  2. Invasive surgeries declined by over 200,000 and the amount of non-surgical procedures increased almost 250,000. 
  3. Non-invasive treatments accounted for 83 percent of the 11.5 million cosmetic procedures last year. 
  4. Since 1997—the first year of statistical tracking by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery—non-surgical forms of aesthetic enhancement have increased 747 percent. Compare this to an increase of only 98 percent for plastic surgery since 1997.
  5. In a new Global Aesthetic Market research report from Medical Insight, Inc., it’s projected that the global aesthetic industry will experience unprecedented growth over the next five years, primarily because of body shaping and skin-tightening services. These new treatments will be primary contributors to record industry growth, forecasted to increase by 12.5 percent annually and reach $15.3 billion by 2011.
