Michael Gonzalez (@mg_1091) of Medusa, The Salon in San Antonio, Texas, specializes in color correction and balayage highlighting. "I work long, late hours by choice, because my clients are my life," he says, "and I am absolutely obsessed with making them happy!"

First time client Kiara was no exception. "She had seen a lot of my work via instagram/ Facebook and decided to book with me," he adds. "She had previous skinny, thin highlights with warm low lights. She explained to me that last year she showed her stylist a photo of this deep violet color but instead got fire engine red." Kiara was hesitant, to try for this color again,  "but in the end she was very pleased."

To get there, Gonzalez took Kiara a shade deeper "because I knew her hair was going to release color quickly due to it being prelightened. I always try to give my clients the most longevity with their color as possible." Gonzalez charged $55 because this was ultimately a simple all over color application.

FORMULA:

1. One entire tube of Pravana 4.52.

2. Half tube of Pravana Red Mix.

3. Quick shot of Violet Mix (L'Oreal Majirel).

4. Combine with 10 volume and a splash of 30 volume for a bit of a pop.

APPLICATION:

ST EP 1:  Apply root to end. ("she had about 2 inches lf new growth so I knew her root area was going to be deeper. I wanted a root shaded look so it came out perfect.")

STEP 2: Process 40 minutes, rinse and shampoo in cool water.

TIPS FOR THE CLIENT ON HOW TO MAINTAIN THE COLOR

-Go as far in between shampoos as possible, every other day, preferably every third day, and only with cool water.

-Condition the ends only.

-Whenever heat is going to be used I absolutely recommend using a heat protectant.

-Client should come back within 4-6 weeks to maintain the depth and richness of the color.
