The New Year typically prompts clients (and you) to rethink health, happiness and hair, among other things. What worked in 2014? What didn't? How can we shake things up this year?

For a client who isn't ready to completely revamp her look just yet, Sam Villa, Redken education artistic director and founding partner of Sam Villa, shares three looks you can give a client that don't require a big chop.

LOOK 1: THE FAUX BOB

Good for medium to long, layered hair.
STEP 1: Apply Redken Guts 10 to dry hair.
STEP 2: Section hair in half (from the top of the head to the crown) and loosely brush each section into a ponytail.
STEP 3: Join both tails into a bun, wrapping sections side to side to avoid a large bump. Secure at the nape of the neck.
STEP 4: Shake head and let shorter layers fall to cover secured hair.

LOOK 2: CHANGE THE PART

For any type of hair!
STEP 1: On dry hair, apply Redken Pillow Proof Blow Two Day Extender, then brush and pin new part in place. OR on wet hair, apply Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Primer mixed with a dab of Redken Align 12; use a Sam Villa Short Cutting Comb with fine teeth to section part.
STEP 2: With nozzle of Sam Villa Professional Ionic Blow Dryer, directionally dry hair (medium to high heat) in position with new part. Make sure to grab hair at the scalp with the comb to redirect hair.
STEP 3: Finish with Redken Control Addict 28 to lock in part.

LOOK 3: SIMPLE, SECURE TUCK

Best for highly layered, medium to long hair.
STEP 1: Isolate sections tucked behind the ear and apply a small amount of Redken Guts 10 to each section and secure each section with a clear elastic band behind both ears to prevent from falling back (ear will hide elastic).
STEP 2: Repeat on the opposite side.
STEP 3: Shake head to allow loose layers to fall and blend. Hair has a new shape that stays.
