TRANSFORMATION: From Whoa To WOW

Maggie Mulhern | January 6, 2015 | 2:28 PM

Cynthia Lumzy (@cynthialumzy), owner of “My Alter Ego Salon” in Dixon, IL, specializes in creative and corrective color.

"My guest wanted a big change with her hair that was edgy and full of color," says Lumzy. "She wanted something that would be beautiful in a 'natural, curly' state as it is blown out and when straight."

Here Lumzy shares her color HOW TO:

Step 1: Remove the black pigments with Matrix Lightmaster and 30 volume, mixed with Olaplex, lifting to Level 7.

Step 2: Shampoo, blow dry and apply Joico Porosity Equalizer.

Step 3: Mix Matrix Vlights lightener with 20 volume and Olaplex. Place 4 horizontal slices back-to-back in the fringe area and 4 diagonal slices on both sides of the head.

Step 4: Apply a mixture of ½ oz. of Pravana 5.66, ½ oz. of 6.66, ½ oz. of Goldwell Max Red 6RR and 2 inches of Pravana Red Additive mixed with 30 volume developer.

Step 5: Process for 30 minutes at room temperature. Shampoo and dry the hair 80%.

Step 6: Apply Joico Intensity RED to all the hair. Cover with a plastic cap and process under high heat for 25 minutes. Cool down for 5 minutes.

Step 7: Rinse in cold water, towel dry and apply Olaplex No. 2 for 5 minutes. Rinse again in cold water, blowout hair and style as desired.
