Stephanie McArthur (instagram: @studiosteffieerose), a Designer1 at Ulta Salon in Henderson, NV, has less than one year of experience, but clearly knows how to create beautiful color.  "I love doing earthy toned hair colors as well as some extravagant fantasy colors," she says. "Hair integrity means a lot to me so I used two sessions about a week apart to ensure her hair was vibrant, shiny, and healthy."

Here she shares the HOW TO in her own words:

Formula First Session:

She started with 2 inches of regrowth at a level 4 and lighter faded red ends. I began by darkening her base to a ashy level 4 and lightening her ends/mid shaft using the "hair painting" technique with diagonal back sections and making sure to fully saturate the ends. I started in the back using Redken Flash Lift with 20 volume and finished in the front using Redken Flash Lift with 30 volume for even processing. I processed both her lightener and base color simultaneously under the UV lamp for 35 minutes and rinsed in cold water. Dried, styled, and let her hair rest while she enjoyed her ombre.

Formula Second Session:

Brightened her ends even more using the same "hair painting" technique with Redken Flash Lift and 30 volume for 30 minutes. Rinsed in cold water and dried. Then I applied a tube of Pravana Vivids Violet and Neon Blue (1:1) throughout the ends and blended the color into Violet and Silver (2:1) towards the root/mid shaft area. Processed at room temperature for 20 minutes and rinsed in cold water. Dried and styled using Redken Fashion Waves and my 2 inch iron.
