Matthew Morris has always been drawn to greasers, outsiders and ’50s and ’60s screen idols. His passion for men’s hair has grown since being named Artistic Ambassador for grooming line Baxter of California.

When Matthew Morris snagged the top prize for the inaugural Men’s category at the 2013 North American Hairstyling Awards, he started to refine and refocus his passion for men’s hair.

“This portfolio represents current silhouettes and trends, with a nod to the bad-boy esthetic,” Morris says.

With a tight silhouette with length on top, the looks can all be worn in varying styles—polished one day, textured and rough the next.

“Men should not be stuck to just one look with a haircut!” Morris says. “If you lay a great foundation, it’ll look great no matter what.”

Using Baxter of California groomers, Morris layers the products on top of each other. On the styles with more of a rough, natural texture, Morris used Crème Pomade and Hard Pomade, known for being extra pliable but with lots of memory and hold.

“Guys don’t want sticky and stiff hair so these worked perfectly for a natural finish,” Morris says.

For the more polished and parted looks, Morris used Soft Water and Hard Water Pomades. “They held hair in place, with more shine, while still not looking like tons of product, just perfectly groomed,” he says.
