Jason Sapp (@hairbyjasonsapp), a national educator for John Paul Mitchell Systems and artist at 67Style, Statesboro, Georgia, had a fun challenge. "This guest initially came to me for a haircut by a referral," says Sapp. "During the haircut, I asked her about her previous color history. She explained that she had been coloring her hair at home. I recommended several color options that would better compliment her skin tone during the haircut service." Approximately 3 weeks later the client reappeared. "She came in for a change to red because of a wig she tried on shopping in a local mall. During the consultation we agreed to leave a deeper rooty look at the base for a softer grow out and easier maintenance. We also decided that a deeper red would look better on her skin complexion than the lighter wig color."

Here Sapp shares the HOW TO:

Step1: Apply Paul Mitchell Dual Purpose Lightener in a balayage V pattern: 20 volume in the back, 30 volume on the top.

Step 2: Process at room temperature for 35 minutes, lifting to a red orange. Rinse and shampoo.

Step 3: Apply from scalp to ends: Paul Mitchell Shines XG 3/4 5r 1/4 5rv.

Step 4: Process under heat for 15 minutes and allow to cool for additional 10 minutes. Rinse, towel blot.

Step 5: Apply six drops of Marula Oil 'Rare Oil Treatment' and process 10 minutes (may use hot towel) as an express treatment. Shampoo and condition the hair with Awapuhi Wild Ginger Mirror Smooth. Apply Awapuhi Wild Ginger Mirror Smooth High Gloss Primer and dry the hair using a flat wrap method. After dry, take see thru sections and smooth with the Paul Mitchell Neuro Smooth.
