Juliana David (@uniquehairdesignsalonspa), owner of Unique Hair Design, Turlock, California, challenged herself with creating a unique design and we love the results. As you read this you will see that at first David did not like the finish, but tweaked it until she was happy.

Here she shares the background:

"I chose this doll because she was previously colored into an ombre with a violet red tint and blonde.  My vision was high fashion runway, trendy, unique, and to shout out texture. The color formula was Paul Mitchell The Color 4vr and 4n with 20 volume on top, and Paul Mitchell Dual Purpose Lightener with 30 volume for the lightened blonde ends. Her hair was long medium textured with slightly layered making her project perfect."

Going into it, David wasn't expecting such a cute sassy result. "When I took the rods out I looked at the mannequin, scratched my head and took a deep breath. It wasn't what I was going for at all. I thought, this is a mess, she looks like she just got out of bed! What am I gonna do with her?  I started to detangle her and as I started doing that I saw a form. I began to separate each curl with my fingers. I pinned up all the straggly ends to make it look like a bob-lob. The good thing is, it's a water perm and a great way to change up a style without cutting or adding any chemicals."

TEXTURE HOW TO:

STEP 1: Shampoo with Paul Mitchell Lavender Mint Shampoo and Conditioner. Wrap using sponge spiral and plastic tube spiral rods in diagonal panels with a curved rod placment ("instead of going horizontal as most perms do.")

STEP 2: Once completely wrapped, spray down with water all over and place under a hooded dryer for about 30-45 minutes on medium heat.

STEP 3: Once completely dry, remove the rods and separate the curl with fingers. Pin up straggly ends and shape to create a form. Spray lightly with Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Paul Mitchell Wild Ginger Shine Spray and Wild Ginger Hairspray.
