Ryann DiBenedetto (@RyannSalonHalo), a color specialist and owner of Salon Halo (@SalonHalo352), a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon in Spring Hill, Fl., says she is "extremely passionate about education and the Paul Mitchell culture." When we found this transformation on Instagram we asked for more information. DiBenedetto shares the details for this makeover that took 3.5 hours. The artist charged $275.

"This guest had waited 4 years to have her hair done and was apprehensive yet very much in need of a change," says DiBenedetto. "She wanted something to make her feel brighter yet still keep some natural rootie dimension."

HOW TO:

Step 1: Using Paul Mitchell Shines XG 8A + 5 volume, apply to the base to add shine and neutralize a bit of existing warmth.

Step 2: Pull the base shade increasingly farther through the sections as working from the apex to the nape. "I kept the root shallow around the face, about an inch out."

Step 3: Then hand paint sections using Paul Mitchell Syncro Lift with 30 volume developer. Apply through four standard segments, leaving out the mohawk section.

Step 4: Once at the mohawk feather slices slightly off scalp in foils (about one to two inches apart and half an inch to an inch off scalp).

Step 5: Hand paint the same shade from midshaft to ends to the hair left out between the foils. "This gave more concentration of energy around her face while avoiding a 'streaky' look. Process for 30 minutes then rinse. Towel dry.

Step 6: Tone at the shampoo bowl with 2 parts 9V + 1 part 9A PMShines for about 10 minutes. Shampoo and then apply Forever Blonde Dramatic Repair Spray and Extra Body sculpting foam. Dry and set with the Paul Mitchell XL curl.
