Kimemily Pham, (@excellenthairsalon) a master stylist and owner of Excellent Hair Salon & Spa Inc., Fremont, California, had an interesting challenge. "My client came to me with a year old ombre/balayage wanting to be as blonde as possible. She had a natural level 3, darkest brown, with existing lighter ends."

Here Pham shares her intital steps to help her client reach her desired shade:

Step 1: Treat hair with Trionics enzyme, cover with a plastic cap and place under dryer for 10 minutes. Rinse and dry hair completely. Starting from the nape, working towards the front, alternate back to back slices and babylights using Joico Creme Lightener with Trionics High Lift developer Higher & Higher throughout the hair.  Process at room temperature for 30 minutes. Rinse well and towel dry.

Step 2: On damp hair, apply the following:
Zone 1: Base color: 5n Redken Shades EQ 3oz + processing solution.
Zone 2: 7n Redken Shades EQ 3oz + processing solution
Zone 3: 9t Redken Shades EQ 30z + processing solution.

Process for 20 minutes. Rinse well and towel dry.

Step 3: From roots to ends apply Matrix ColorSync 10p 3oz +10v 3oz + 6oz 10 volume.  Process for 10 minutes. Rinse, shampoo with Joico Purple Shampoo. Towel dry.
