This year, Intercoiffure’s Nouveau’s Creative Color and Cutting contest looked to stylist, educator and salon owner Sonya Dove to serve as inspiration for the competition.

“The contestants were asked to interpret Sonya’s collection of cut and colors, not to replicate them,” says Perry Monge, chairperson and creative director for Intercoiffure Nouveau, which promotes leadership in new talent by offering opportunities to present in main stage programs on a national and international level. This year’s judges were Dove, alongside industry icons and educators Scott Cole and Sam Brocato

The top three winners, Mariluz Rivera, Julie Sharp and Mercedes Villasana, will represent Intercoiffure America/Canada at the Intercoiffure Mondial show in Paris as part of the Guillaume Foundation.

“Guillaume is the exchange of ideas with young talent from around the world,” Monge says. “They spend three days with educators from Wella and L’Oréal Professionnel learning new techniques and exchanging creative ideas. They present their models during the Mondial featured presentation.”
