It is estimated that hair salons worldwide contribute an astonishing 196 million tons of foil waste per year. Are you one of them?

If you're looking at becoming a more sustainable workplace or colorist, look no further. Biodegradable Beauty has launched a biodegradable hair salon foil replacement product for use with color and highlighting applications. The product is composed of raw material that's renewable; plus, the product fabrication can actually help minimize the application process. The clear design allows colorists to check progress during the coloring process without opening the application.

So what is the profound difference? Biodegradable Beauty when combined with compost converts directly into carbon dioxide with no remnants or traces of waste. “Starting today, hair salons and colorists can feel good about doing something for the future of the planet. Making the responsible choice by switching to a biodegradable alternative is an effortless transition with substantial reward,” says Frank Cini; co-founder, Biodegradable Beauty.

The story of Biodegradable Beauty began with the vision of Norm Wright, a well-respected and award-winning Toronto colorist at TAZ salon in Yorkville. Wright, a humanitarian in his own right, struggled with the amount waste he and millions of colorists around the world were contributing to landfill through the foil highlighting process. With the thought of the effects this waste was having on the planet, Wright passionately vowed to come up with an eco-friendly option...and that he did.

After four years of research, countless trials and rigorous testing, Wright and Cini engineered a viable and easy-to use replacement for foil.

“Finally seeing this reality unfold before my eyes has been an incredible ride. For me, the goal has always been making an impact and reaching the masses with our message and viable option they can feel good about. As hairdressers we have the unique advantage of touching so many people, every single day and so it is our responsibility to use this advantage in ways that will not only effect the client but the environment as well,” says Wright.

Since the Biodegradable Beauty “soft launch” back in June 2015; the product has created a movement. According to the company, countless requests for product and information have been pouring in from around the world and testimonials from leading Canadian salons. The positive response helps position the company one step closer to their goal of helping save the world one strand at a time.
