Who We Are
Houston-based Farouk Systems, Inc., manufactures high-quality, professional haircare products with major brands including CHI and BioSilk. The company was founded in 1986 by Farouk Shami, a hairdresser, with the mission to provide the professional beauty industry with the most advanced American technology based upon education, environment and ethics.

Farouk Shami pioneered the environ-mentally safe color options we have today by creating ammonia-free color. We continue to this day to place an emphasis on having environmentally safe color for salons and clients alike. Based on this demand, we went PPD-free a few years ago. However, we like to point out that we have ceramic and ionic dyes that penetrate deeper into the hair and give complete oxidation—this is why our colors are so vibrant and last longer. We also have silk for moisture, strength, radiance and shine.

One of the unique benefits of our CHI Color Systems is that they work together as a system to allow colorists to be creative. This is due to our use of ammonia-free technology, which allows a colorist to do multiple services at one time. For example, it would be easy to apply permanent or demi-color on the hair and go back and highlight with a lightener on top of the color. We can do this because our formulation maintains a consistent pH during processing. In the past, a colorist had to isolate the two colors or apply them separately, which took more time.

Currently, our products are sold in more than 133 countries through distributors and licensed cosmetologists only. Annually, Farouk Systems conducts more than 1,000 shows, 15,000 classes and countless seminars worldwide with more than 2,000 certified educators. Farouk Systems Inc. is the one and only company of professional hairdressers, for hairdressers.

Why Farouk?
Education has always been the foundation of our company, and it is becoming increasingly more important to stylists as clients become more knowledgeable about haircare and demand safer products. Eleven-level system with a color-coded tonal series. Four easy steps are the foundation and most important to ensuring you achieve your target color. These steps are applied with every single color application and make it easy for a colorist, insuring confidence in formulating color:

  1. Determine natural/tinted level.
  2. Determine the level you wish to achieve.
  3. Determine the tonal series.
  4. Determine the volume of developer needed
