Michelle Galvan's (@hairbymimigal) client came in with four or five inches of natural level 2 re-growth with about 15 percent gray mixed in. Mid-shafts to ends were a level 5 red/ orange box color done at home with uneven zones, and what she describes as very kinky, curly hair.

Galvan used all Aveda color during this process.

For the base color, Galvan applied at the outgrown roots. She used 40grams 5n+ 4grams light violet/blue+20volume

For the highlights, she used enlightner 20 volume

And between foils applied mid-shaft to ends, Galvan used 40grams 5n+ 4 grams light blue/blue + liquid developer

"All of that processed at the same time for about 30 minutes, then I toned the highlights for five minutes using 40grams 8n + 6g light blue blue + 40grams liquid developer," Galvan says.

After the color process, Galvan cut five inches off the length and did long layers. To style, she used Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer and Aveda Flax Seed Aloe gel, both applied to wet hair and then dried with a smooth round brush.
