In their Through Thin and Thick...from Science to Style class at America's Beauty Show in Chicago, Viviscal Professional taught attendees all about hair loss, thinning hair and hair growth. Viviscal Professional is known for their dietary supplement that is clinically proven to thicken and grow hair. The supplements support healthy hair from the inside using their exclusive AminoMarC.

The line also features a topical shampoo, conditioner and leave-in elixir they prescribe with the use of the supplements.

Before prescribing the right products to your thinning clients, it’s important to know the basics. One of the topics they touched on was the phases of hair growth. Did you know there are four different phases? Watch the video below and learn for yourself:

It’s also important to decipher which kind of hair loss or thinning your client is experiencing. Here are some different types:

Androgenetic Alopecia: Female pattern hair loss. Usually genetically inherited. Can also be caused by aging change in androgen levels.

Telogen Effluvium: Known as temporary hair loss and can affect everyone. Causes: diet, stress, etc.

Anagen Effluvium: Usually occurs with chemotherapy or radiation: opposed to Telogen Effluvium, the hair is lost during the growing stage of hair growth. It is rapid hair loss.

Alopecia: Considered to be autoimmune disorders

  • Areata: Some or all areas of body, usually bald spots.
  • Totalis: Is the loss of all head hair
  • Universalis: Medical condition including rapid loss of hair
