MODERN invited Thomas Osborn, Bedhead by TIGI creative director and vice president of education and Richy Kandasamy, creative director/colorist, to the our studios to show how team TIGI is playing with the new Colour Trip line. Both were thrilled with “color virgin” Sierra.

“Colour Trip offers a great way to introduce a client to color,” Kandasamy says. “You can add color and be artistic without forcing a major commitment on the client. We can still do so much without changing the natural color.” The technique shown allows that pop of fun color that will fade to a gently highlighted finish. The mids and ends are slightly lifted and then color is added in a tie-dye application. “When she moves different hues will pop out.”

For shape, Osborn utilized the existing undercut. “She has a ton of hair with a little wave,” he says. “She may have had a fear factor for the color, but for the cut she was excited about new texture.” The goal with shape was to maintain the length and give a strong fringe to emphasize Sierra’s cheekbones and eyes. Osborn used a controlled slicing technique to give uneven ends. “It’s not a clean line. It’s more jagged. It’s perfect with this tie-dye color.”
