MODERN found this great before and after on instagram, posted by Zoe Sky (@zoeskyhair).  Based at the Pierre & Carlo Salon in Philadelphia, Sky’s page is filled with amazing transformations and pretty finishes. We asked not only HOW she got was able to smooth this hair, but equally important, HOW to keep this first timer smiling during the service.

HOW TO:

-Make sure to add plenty of moisture before any heat.  I use Aveda and Moroccanoil styling products to add plenty of moisture before any heat.
-Blow dry with an Aveda paddle brush.
-Flat iron edges first, then press the entire head bone straight.
-Trim dead ends.
-Go back with the flat iron and curl as desired.

TIPS:

-kids can be a challenge! I let them hold a hand mirror so they can be involved in the process. Give them things to distract them. Coloring book, magazines and quiet games. iPad and cell phones are great if the parent provides them.
-When using heat close to the scalp, have the client close her eyes and count to 5 or 10 so she doesn’t jump when she sees how close the iron is to the head.
