Q: How do you achieve natural-looking, sun-kissed blondes?

A: "I achieve these blondes by weaving in multiple shades, starting with darker shades of blonde at the back of the head," says Michael Albor, Matrix Artist, Owner and Creative Director of Newbury Street’s The Loft Salon. "The contrast is necessary for the lighter pieces to appear lustrous. Gradually build lighter shades toward the hairline, and they will reflect off the lowlights to create depth and movement. Another important aspect is the base color. Don’t go too light. Adding multiple shades throughout the hair creates just the right amount of depth, so that the base color doesn’t appear too dark. My favorite technique is to combine freehand balayage and with a base-shading foil technique. I use Matrix ammonia-free ColorInsider for this because of its thicker consistency, which allows me to place the color exactly where I want it."
