Matrix Artistic Director Daniel Roldan and Matrix Stylist Sharon Peak demonstrate how to give a client sweet-but-subtle, fashion-forward color. They advise making fashion color look high-end and radiant by highlighting the center of the client's face with Matrix’s Cheek Strobe.

FORMULA & APPLICATION

Natural level 5 medium brown

Lightener Formula: 2 scoops Light Master with 2 oz. 30-volume Matrix Cream Developer

Formula A: 2 oz Color Sync HD-RR with 2 oz 10-volume Matrix Cream Developer

Formula B: 2 oz Color Sync 3VV with 2 oz 10-volume Matrix Cream Developer

Formula C: ½ oz Color Sync 8N + ½ oz 8P + ½ oz 10V with 1½ oz 10-volume Matrix Cream Developer

1. Begin by creating an ear-to-ear parting and securing all the hair in the back. This is section 1. Next, create a triangle section from the top of the crown to the recession area on both sides and secure. This is section 2. Secure the remaining hair on each side for control. These are sections 3 and 4.

2. Starting in nape, take a diagonal slice, apply Lightener Formula using a freehand technique in V shape to the mid-lengths through the ends. Feather the formula up toward the scalp for a soft diffusion of color. Continue to use diagonal partings working up Section 1. Repeat this application into side sections 3 and 4.

3. Working in the crown, take 1-inch diagonal sub-sections, apply lightener Formula using a freehand technique in V shape to the mid-lengths through the ends. Continue until section complete. Process up to 50 minutes. Rinse, dry and resection into four sections.

4. Starting at bottom of side section, take a ⅛-inch slice and apply Formula A staying slightly off-scalp down to about an inch using the outer corner of the eyebrow as your guide. Next, feather Formula B, then Formula C, ending with Formula A. Process up to 20 minutes.
