Samantha Lawrence (@samlawrencehair) of House of Color, Colorado Springs, Colorado, says her 75%/very curly hair client wanted to be a "Unicorn! We had been doing her hair with a level 5 natural on her base and highlights with a block coloring of purple and blue in the front. She then decided she wanted to go full color because we kept making the purple and blue more prominent."

Here Lawrence shares the how-to:

Step 1: Apply a full head of highlights in diagonal slices, against back to back weaves. Color used: Kenra Simply Blonde Blue lightener and 20 volume.

Step 2: Go between with Kenra 3VR mixed with a little 1N and 20 volume to make a deep violet black. Process for 35 minutes and then rinse.

Step 3: Apply fashion shades in alternating diagonal sections, keeping colors that compliment each other next to each other and melting 2 colors every few strands :

Joico Hot Pink mixed with Scruples Pink diluted with Clear

•Joico Peacock Green mixed with Joico Mint Green

Pulp Riot Aquamarine

•Joico Sapphire Blue diluted with Clear

•Joico Amethyst with a dot of Sapphire

•Scruples Yellow mixed with Joico yellow

Step 4: Process for 20 minutes. Rinse in cold water and condition with AG Ultramoist Conditioner.
