Get in the Competitive Spirit and Enter a Competition at ISSE (Choose Hair or Makeup)

New this year at the International Salon and Spa Expo (ISSE) Long Beach is its Makeup Competition! 2017's theme is “Fantasy,” showcased in two categories: Special Effects (SPX) and Airbrush. Competitors will be judged on theme, originality of design, use of colors, use of materials and techniques.

If makeup isn’t your forte, there’s also a competition for hair. The ISSE Hairstyling Competition is back in 2017 with three new themes: hair braiding - Coachella theme, Ladies Haircutting, and Night at the Club – LA Style.

Each competition has two categories – professional and student. Hair Braiding - Coachella Theme and Night at the Club - LA Style must be completed on a live model. Ladies Haircutting must be completed on a mannequin head.

Color Zoom 101: Every year, Goldwell releases a trend collection that is used as the inspiration for its annual haircolor and style competition, Color Zoom. Across the globe, Color Zoom starts on a national level. Beauty pros compete in three categories— Creative Colorist, New Talent Colorist, Partner Colorist—by submitting a photo of their interpretation of the trend. Once the Gold winners of each category are determined on a national level, they go on to compete internationally on behalf of their respective countries during a live recreation of the look on their model—including the hair color—in front of a judging panel and audience. The international leg of the competition takes place in a new city each year.
