Jamie Millmather (@jmillmather) of La La Luxe Salon, Providence, Rhode Island, is a certified Wella master color expert and a Wella brand educator.  Client Renee “was referred to me by another hairstylist when she wanted to take the journey to silver hair. Renee had been coloring her hair with Henna color for years.” Renee stopped about 6 months before she came to see Millmather. “My first step with her was to do a strand test which I did in an area where I felt had the most color build up. I used Wella Blondor and 20 volume in a foil packet for about 25 minutes. That showed me exactly what I was working with which was a strand of hair that was lifting different levels all through the hair shaft.” When she came in for her actual appointment, Millmather knew what she had to do. Here are the details:

Step 1: Starting at the nape, apply Blondor with 20 volume (1:2) take thin sections and apply first where the darkest band was from front to back, applying to the rest of the strand up to one inch from the scalp. Process to desired lift.

Step 2: Shampoo, treat and re-apply the Blondor with 13 volume from mid shaft to ends to lift her past the yellow level 8.

Step 3: To the root apply Blondor with 10 volume. After processing, shampoo, treat and rinse.

Step 4: Glaze (number 1) with Wella Color Touch 1oz 10/6 .30oz 7/89 with 2 parts Pastel from root to end for 15 minutes.

Step 5: Glaze (number 2) to the root: Wella Color Touch 1oz 5/1 with a dot 0/88 2 parts 6 volume.

Step 6: Glaze (number 3) from root shade to ends with Wella Color Touch 1oz 10/1 with a dot of 2/0. 2 parts Pastel. Process step 5 and 6 together for 15 minutes.

“This color transformation took about 6 hours to do I was lucky her hair was so cooperative and I was able to maintain her integrity by making the right product choices for her hair texture and porosity.”
