Lauren Kovalick (@laurkhair) of Bombshell Salon (@Bombshellsalon), Ellicott City, MD, says her guest "came to us with a grown out ombre that had really harsh lines. Our goal was to create a more organic balayage of blonde and her natural with cool tones running thru the ends.”

Here she shares the details for this makeover:

Step 1: Paint the root with a cooler tone 1 level darker than her natural (natural level 6) using Paul Mitchell Color XG 5N with 10 volume developer.

Step 2: Balayage with with Paul Mitchell Dual Purpose Lightener with 10 volume developer thru the mid shaft and ends to break up the demarcation lines

Step 3: Handpaint lowlights  to bring her natural back thru to the ends using Paul Mitchell Color XG 6N with blue intensifier and 10 volume developer. Process according to manufacturers instructions and then rinse.

Step 4: Tone with a complimentary cool toner using Paul Mitchell UTA 5 volume developer.

Step 5: Finish with Awapuhi Wild Ginger Hydratriplex Treatment.
