Austin, Texas-based stylist Kristen Ewing (@kristen.lumiere) posts the most beautiful balayages and what she called “organic blondes” and that’s what caught our eye for this year’s MODERN SALON 100. See more about how social media changed her life and helped build her business.

Name: Kristen Ewing

Specialty: Sustainable balayage, organic blondes

Followers: 12.9K

Age: 25

Favorite apps: Facetune, Aviary

Favorite hashtags: #modernsalon #hairofinstagram #austinbalayage #atx

I follow: @ashleenormandoeshair @gina.devine @jamiedanahairstylist

Pro tip: Connect with your following and show your beautiful soul. Social media is just that: social. Don’t be one of those people who  doesn’t reply to others.

Favorite products: Davines, Evo, Pulp Riot, Oligo

How social media changed my life: When I was first building, I had to completely discount my work. I had no Instagram following, no Facebook, no anything. It took me over a year to build myself in California. I recently moved to Austin and booked myself out six weeks in less than three months because of my following. I receive at least 2-3 referrals a day and have created quite the empire for myself!

The first time I was featured on MODERN SALON: My heart leaped! I was so excited to see my hard work recognized by such an influential brand. The impact was amazing. Not only did my following grow, but I received clients from it, too!
