It's a dream situation for a stylist on Instagram for a creation to go viral, especially for a 20-something-year-old stylist. Hannah Edelman's chocolate mauve color creation blew up all over the internet, making its way to consumer-publication pages as the IT color for spring, even inspiring Selena Gomez to mix some dusty pink into her chocolate locks. How social media changed your life: Social media provided the opportunity to create a live, interactive portfolio of my work for clients and potential clients. This allowed me to skip the traditional career path of being an assistant, then a junior stylist, then a stylist, etc. I was never an assistant and worked at one salon for about four weeks. I never would have been able to build up a reputation without a virtual platform. Eventually beauty writers found me and began publishing my work on their websites, which afforded a world of exposure.
