Raquel Bodoh (@Rabodanks), a stylist and educator at Colorific Salon in Bolingbrook, Illinois, says that "My clients fuel my passion, there's nothing better then uplifting my clients spirits with a new color and style."

When Mariah, a first time client, found Bodoh on Instagram, she ran over to get some help with her too dramatic color design. Here Bodoh offers how she softened the line of demarkation on Mariah to bring her to a tasteful and gentle ombre:

shades used:

All color by OYA:

4-9 (violet) w/10 volume developer was used at base to mid shaft

OYA lightener w/20 volume developer in foils

OYA lightener w/30vol for balayage

gloss: OYA 6-7 Copper with 5 volume developer

STEP 1:
Divide the hair into 4 sections, vertically from hairline to nape and at the ear split.

STEP 2: Apply base color at the root and feather through into the mid shaft.

STEP 3: Weave 4 fine bump foils of lightener into each section, not applying all the way to the root.

STEP 4: Balayage the ends and feather up into the mid shaft to break up the line of demarcation and meet the base color to melt the colors for a smooth transition.

STEP 5: Processing time depends on condition of the hair. "I recommend checking every 5-10 minutes. I let my client process for about 15 to 20 minutes."

STEP 6: Shampoo and rinse. Apply a gloss to enhance the copper tone and to add shine.

STEP 7: Process for 5 minutes, and then rinse and condition.
