For this MODERN SALON session, Sexy Hair Artistic Director Rafe Hardy and International Master Artist Dawn Atkinson prepped the hair with curls, rotating directions and using various iron sizes for a “clash-curl” effect. Once set, the hair was styled into different looks ranging from the commercial Demure to the wearable-with-an-edge Let It Roar, and finally the more avant garde Alter Ego.

Alternate 1-inch, on-base curls with a curling iron and ½-inch spiral wand curls. Alternate directions from left to right to create a clash-curl effect.

How to Shake Up a Boring Bob

Maggie Mulhern | January 11, 2018

Mio Sota, top hairdresser, Color Zoom Winner (Partner Category) and top artist at Trio Salon, Chicago, Ill., loves a good bob, but also loves to offer her clients options if they want to "shake it up a bit." According to Sota, "This simple technique adds a little movement and a fresh finish without changing the overall shape." Video demo here.
