Hairstylist Justine Marjan divides her time between Los Angeles and New York, but can also be found jetting around the globe with her celebrity roster of clients which includes Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, Olivia Culpo, and Kerry Washington. She launched into the world of super-celebrity through her work with Mane Addicts and mentor Jen Atkins, and today she represents the styling tool line, ghd, as their North American Brand Ambassador.
When her hands aren’t in hair, they are holding her phone. Marjan says sharing on social media is a big part of her job and one she loves. We met with her at a press event in Los Angeles and fired some short answer questions at this on-the-move beauty maker.
Hometown: I grew up in Carpinteria, CA.
Favorite item of clothing in your wardrobe: A little Prada constellation purse.
Your greatest hair faux-pas: About seven years ago, I shaved my head. Not a good look.
Your big break: When I did Kim Kardashian’s braids, two years ago. She wanted an easy and fun look at it was totally her idea to do four cornrow braids. They went viral and were everywhere.
Travel tips: I always carry some Olika Life hand sanitizing wipes and I wipe down everything—the tray table, the screen, everything. I bring Gummy vitamins from Olly Nutrition. And the ghd flight blowdryer is great to travel with because it’s super-light.
Would love to work with: Selena Gomez and Beyonce
On your 2018 vision board: I put the ghd styler, lots of houses, lots of rings and different clients.
What’s trending in hair: I think that instead of super shattered and bleached-out we’re going to see more shiny, polished and healthy hair.
Lessons learned from celebrity clientele: I think when you work with celebs and with any client it’s not about you, it has to be about the person you’re working on and doing your best to be of service.
