Using three of Essie's highly pigmented polishes, the pro produced a playful pattern that's as easy to achieve at home as it is bold and bright. "Try a half macaroni shape or a single dot of color to fill any empty space," Miss Pop said.
Isnpired by innovative architect Zaha Hadid's linear-yet-organic structures, Julie Kandalec for Essie created a "shattered metallic ombre" design that played off the shiny, eye-catching elements in the Cushnie et Ochs' Fall/Winter 2018 collection. This twinkling take on the clasic French manicure gives a natural nail color an instant, glittery boost. To create a glitzy French manicure, Kandalec suggests a "soft square" shape. "If the nail is too oval, it doesn't look as graphic," she said.
Inspired by female artists like Hannah Hoch and Suzanne Duchamp, who played with bold colors and always offered an element of surprise within their work, Kandalec created an "untraditional French" manicure that mirrored the vibrant, two-tone shoes in the collection. "We paired interesting and unexpected colors together," Kandalec said. "Start from the left side of the nail and drag the brush across the tip in one swoop."
Inspired by the lush floral and Elizabethan prints in Oscar de la Renta's Fall/Winter 2018 collection, Kandalec created a bold-yet-sophisticated burgandy manicure. For a clean cuticle line, erase smudges with an orange wood stick dipped in acetone. "The wood is porouse so you don't need fuzzy cotton, which can stick to polish," Kandalec said.
Playing off the lip looks at Self-Portrati's Fall/Winter 2018 show, Rita Remark for Essie reached for two different polish colors. Models wearing blue lips sported a matching navy mani, while women with natural lips received neutral nails.
With the "modern CEO" serving as muse for Alexander Wang's Fall/Winter 2017 show, Remark for played off the chrome accents in the collection by lending the nail a sublte "strobing effect" that mirrored the shine on cheekbones. The result is a steely, nude, manicure loaded with shine. "Anything but traditional- this is a modern empowered woman," said Remark. "She's rewriting the rules of what it means to look and behave like a CEO."
Alice + Olivia fused rock 'n' roll with Rococco for Fall/Winter 2018. Remark created a jet black nail art that aded Kate Moss-worthy edge to sweet, Marie Antoinette-esque looks.
