On March 1st, John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of John Paul Mitchell Systems (JPMS), hiked into the Angeles National Forest above Los Angeles with a group of beauty and environmental influencers and activists to plant trees in a scarred landscape and to give back to Mother Earth.  Through a partnership with Reforest’Action, an environmental organization that plant trees in areas where they’re most needed, Tea Tree Hair Care has pledged to plant 750,000 trees by the end of 2019. Their commitment will go a long way towards preserving the environment and improving life for millions around the planet.

“Every day we have a choice to either continue to strip the earth and take or we can regenerate and today as a group we get to give back to Mother Earth,” says JPMS Corporate Culture Ambassador Mara Gourdine.

Representatives from Tree People, an organization that empowers people to come together to plant and care for trees, educates youth to stand up for the environment, and creates policies for a healthier, climate-ready, water-secure future, walked everyone through the basics of tree-planting, from digging the hole to watering to creating a bit of shade for the Coulter Pines to flourish.

“These trees aren’t going to thank you,” DeJoria says, “but you are doing something for somebody else, you are helping the planet. We come to our planet with absolutely nothing and we basically  leave with nothing but when we come out here isn’t it nice to know that we did something unselfishly to leave the planet in a better place.”

The Tea Tree Hair Care Pledge to plant will

  • Conserve the Rainforest and California forests to provide environmental protection
  • Help slow climate change by sequestering 100,000 tons of CO2 during the tree's lifetime
  • Improve community health and air quality to create a healthier life for locals
  • Support local economies by increasing revenues by using what the trees produce such as the Maya nut and Cocoa nut
  • Create fertile land to increase soil protection, which improves plant lifespan
  • Teach children about the roles trees and forests play in their daily lives
