As the 6th annual Beauty Changes Lives Experience approaches, the NextGen teams appearing on the fashion runway are sharing a sneak peek of the looks they will be designing the evening of April 29 at the Art Institute of Chicago.

TIGI’s NextGen team features team mentor and U.S. Technical Education Director Renee Valerie, and NextGen artists Anita Thammasine, and Cristina Magliocchetti. Here Valerie of Team TIGI talks about their theme and how they’ll interpret it on the runway:

Theme: Your Vibe. Our Tribe.

Why did you choose this theme and how does it inspire you?

Renee Valerie: This theme encourages personal style and provides a platform for likeminded people to share their authentic self. Everyone has an individual vibe, and we’re galvanizing a tribe to encourage, inspire and embrace the freedom to be an individual.

What is your vision to translate your theme to the runway?

RV: 2018 is the year of owning who you are. It’s about being heard, having a voice and celebrating the unapologetic strength of the Youth. In fashion and in youth culture, what was once extreme is now mainstream and this is something we rejoice in.

Were there any external influences that helped you develop your theme interpretation?

RV: We’re celebrating the strength of youth demanding their voices be heard and actively standing up for their beliefs. Our theme will expose the confidence in owning who you are and not being shy in showing the world who you are.
